Hey little one from India, Welcome to Saudi. You’re family now.

From science fiction to business impact –

Can businesses improve processes which will produce less errors and improve quality and speed — going beyond human capabilities?

Will automation take away jobs — this is the argument that is going on from years together. The jobs which are physical in nature, in highly structure and predictable environment, as well as data collection and processing can be automated.

The main industry, which is going to see automation are: Manufacturing, Accommodation, and food service and retail trade.

The factors which will determine the impact, pace and extent of automation include:

· Ongoing developments of technological activities.

· Cost of technology.

· Competition with labour with skills.

· Supply and demand dynamics.

· Performance benefits.

Half of our today’s activities can be automated by 2055. With the work from home model, which the population is getting comfortable, the number of years might come down.

Where can machines replace humans?

The top industries are Agriculture, Manufacturing and Retail.

50% of work in agriculture can be automated. 64% can be automated in manufacturing and finally 54% of retail trade work can be automated from today’s work.

India, china, brazil and Indonesia are front runners in the automation in the space of agriculture. The machines which can be used for ploughing, harvesting, crop cutting, watering and for activities related to fertilization. — which many of the farmers cannot afford now, but in the growing time and the growing surplus money, the price factor should not matter. If an flipkart truck comes to a apartment complex and there are 1000 units in the complex of 20 floors, using drone, all the products can be delivered to their doorstep — drones acting as delivery agents.

In the space of Manufacturing: China and India will lead in automation and with Indonesia also kicking in, there is huge space for money to circulate in and around South and East Asia.

Where can machines NOT replace humans?

Management of companies, art and entertainment, mining and information/research sector cannot be fully automated.

When someone is working in the management of companies, we are essentially talking about leadership — USA will still dominate the world in the leadership space (35%), in comes Canada, with growing space for corporate investment and working in the same time zone as USA. Then the limelight comes to India (52%) and China (46%) — where the percentages of automation in leadership is high — but there is huge potential for involvement of humans in driving innovation.

In the industry of arts and entertainment: USA (41%), Japan (55%), Russia (33%) and Germany (48%) — so and so percentage of the exiting entertainment and arts services in these countries have the potential to be automated and to be accessed through some digital platform. With the growing OTT platforms like Disney+ Hotstar, Netflix, Prime Video, Discovery, Sony LIV, Star Plus — we are going to see the usage of the data that these platforms generate in offering better services to the consumers and generating subscription revenue out of them. Not to forget, Japan and their amazing way of engaging the crowd in anime movies.

Information/ Research — In the field of research — where there is huge trend in the world of pushing engineering graduates in specializing and getting their PhD, USA (36%) as a country is on the top. In the science and engineering education, important players in the world have not stepped back as well — Russia (41%), Japan (45%), India (59%), and Germany (51%).

Note: The percentage depicts the potential that these countries offer in automation in those particular industry/sectors.
